Subsequently, the diploma in Paeds, Palliative Care (UCT and Red Cross) in 2021 and short Course in Palliative Care in 2024.
Work experiences. I elected to stay on and work at Groote Schuur after completing my studies to gain wider experience. The career choices thereafter spanned being Sister in Charge at a Private Hospital (Leeuwendal), working in palliative care in satellite community clinics, and as a team leader at St Lukes Hospice, 2 township/community developmental projects, HIV care, and thereafter in geriatric care in a care facility in Cape Town. I joined the team at Chariot about 5 months ago and have found it to be extremely rewarding and educational.
My interests include road running, writing poetry and baking/cooking.
I feel extremely grateful to have a strong tribe of friends, gathered since junior school in Cape Town, with whom I maintain a lot of contact and derive great support.

Meet Sr Yvonne Jackman
I began my nursing journey by qualifying as a general nurse in 1970 at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg. Over the next 14 years I travelled between the UK and Southern Africa every six months and am registered as a nurse in England, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. In 1985, I took my first Hospice course at St Lukes’s and started volunteering there while continuing my nursing work in hospitals. This experience at St Luke’s inspired me to join their fulltime staff in 2007, where I dedicated a decade of service before moving to Chariot Health.
My dedication to St Luke’s extended beyond my work, as I participated in two 210km fundraising walks for the organisation in 2011 and 2012, alongside two colleagues.
Adding a touch of adventure to my life, I embarked on a memorable week-long hike in the Annapurna Mountain Range in the Himalayas with my daughter in 2018.
